MB POI Loader Support - Download a KML input file

Before you can generate a custom POI file for your COMAND APS system, you need an input file in the .KML (Google Earth) syntax. You can find these files on a large number of sites, and for a large number of POI categories (speed cameras, hotels, fuel stations, etc).
In the example below, we'll show you how you can download a .KML file with fixed speed cameras from the scdb.info website.

Download the speed camera .KML input file from scdb.info
(note: the steps below don't apply if you're not interested in speed cameras, or not using SCDB.info as a source)

  1. Log in on www.scdb.info.
If you don’t have an account, you can register a free one.
  2. Once you are logged in, continue with the steps below.
In the left menu navigation, click on "other" under "Speedcam Data".

In the "overview speed camera plug-ins", click on "Miscellaneous".

Click on "Select" for "Google Earth".

If you don't find it, direct link to the final page is:
  3. Click "Download" at the bottom of the page.

Check the "I accept the terms of use" checkbox.
    Click "Send".

  4. Select the region for which you want to download the speed cam data.
    Click "Download".

This will download a file called "google_earth_scdb.kmz".

If you select a large area (e.g. all of Europe), then you'll get too many cameras.
Keep in mind that the COMAND system has a hard limit, which you cannot cross otherwise your file will not work! You can use the "Tools" section in the Settings to find out how many cameras are included in your file.
  5. Rename the extension of the downloaded file from ".kmz" to ".zip".

  6. Unzip the downloaded file.
It contains a file called "google_earth_scdb.kml", which is the file we need.
